3 Easy Tips To Keep Your Granite Countertops Looking Brand New

Granite is a beautiful natural stone that is available in a wide variety of colors and variations, so it is not surprising that granite countertops are so popular in kitchens and bathrooms. Since granite is a natural stone, granite countertops are not inexpensive. Thus, if you're going to invest a good amount of money into having granite countertops installed in your home, you are sure to want to keep them looking great for many years to come. Luckily, it is not overly difficult to keep granite countertops in great condition after they are installed. Use the following tips to keep your granite countertops looking brand new:

Clean Your Countertops Daily

A simple way to keep your granite countertops looking great is by cleaning them daily. However, it is absolutely essential to avoid using an all-purpose cleaner or any type of cleaners that contain bleach or vinegar, as these types of cleaners can damage the surface of the stone. For everyday cleaning, it is best to clean the countertops with warm water and a gentle dish soap. It is also a good idea to invest in a cleaner specifically designed for cleaning granite and use it several times a month to remove any build up that may leave your granite countertops looking foggy.

Practice Good Habits

Paying attention to your countertops and practicing good habits can go a long way in keeping your granite in excellent condition. Make sure that when you're cleaning your countertops, you always use a soft, microfiber cloth. Using anything abrasive can cause scratches. It is also important to always use a trivet or pot holder for hot pots-- granite is very strong and can resist heat, but extended exposure to very hot temperatures can potentially cause a crack to form in the stone. Likewise, always use a cutting board when cutting or chopping meats or vegetables. Lastly, clean up any spills immediately to prevent any type of stain from forming.

Don't Forget to Re-Seal

When your granite countertops are installed, the stone will be sealed. However, it is important to note that sealant will not last for the life of your countertops. If you want to keep your granite looking as pristine as possible, it is very important to remember to re-seal it in order to protect the surface. Typically, granite countertops only need to be re-sealed every couple of years. If you are unsure whether or not it is time to re-seal your countertops, consult a granite professional.

As they grew older, their messes also grew, so I had to find another flooring option that can withstand all of the abuse of the dogs and the kids. There are several flooring options that can withstand the abuse that those little creatures put it through.
